Women's unused, vintage, sheer silk ro summer kimono - deep red Iromuji

Sorry, this item has sold.

This listing is for the kimono seen in the photographs. Please note that kimono do not have belts or loops for belts.

This beautiful, vintage, iromuji (solid colored) kimono is created entirely of silk. This kimono is in excellent, unused condition. Please note that there is one age spot on the collar of the kimono. Please read the description to learn about this flaw. This kimono still has some of its "stay" or "basting" stitches around the sleeves. These white threads can be removed before wearing.

This summer kimono is a deep red color and is created out of a silk gauze called "ro" silk. Ro is a gorgeous, gossamer silk that has lines of densely woven silk alternating with an open weave. This creates a silk that is strong, beautiful and cool. This kimono is not lined. Due to the open weave of this kimono a nagajuban (undergarment) should be worn. However, this would also make a gorgeous robe for wearing over a nightgown. Please note than you may have to have the kimono hemmed if you plan to use it as a robe otherwise the hem may trail on the floor.

The light to medium weight, ro silk has a woven texture that is similar to a twill fabric. The silk has slight sheen and wonderful drape.

The collar is lined with a white ro silk. Snaps are sewn on the inside of the collar so that an eri (collar) will be held in place. You can remove these snaps if you wish. There is one yellow age spot on the left, inside collar. This can be seen in the 9th photo. This spot will not be noticeable when the kimono is worn closed.

The last photo shows the color of the kimono most accurately. Crayola brand crayons were placed in the photo for color comparison. The color of the kimono is a deep red with brown undertone. It matches the red-violet crayon closely.

Please read the dimensions to determine if you will find the size desirable for you.

*Length of kimono: about 66 inches (168 cm)

-kimono are folded when worn to adjust the length. For the majority of women the hem of this kimono may drag on the floor unless it is adjusted. Measure from your shoulder to your ankle. The difference between this number and 66 inches will be the amount that needs to be folded. For example: If you measure 50 inches from your shoulders to your ankles then 16 inches of the kimono will be needed to be folded to adjust the length. If you measure greater than 66 inches from your shoulders to your ankles than this kimono will be too short for you unless you plan to use the kimono as a robe.

*Shoulder width of kimono with sleeves: 52 inches ( 132 cm)

-Stand with your arms spread out and have a friend measure from one wrist, across your shoulders and to your other wrist. This will help determine where the sleeve will fall on your wrist.

*Length of sleeves(how far the sleeves fall): 20.5 inches (52 cm)

*Width of kimono: 54 inches (137 cm)

- measure around your hips at the widest point. Subtract this number from 54 inches (137cm). If the difference is about 16 inches (41cm) or greater than this kimono should fit you well. If the difference is about 10 inches (25cm) this kimono should still fit you but it may not overlap as much in the front. If the difference is 10 inches (25cm) or less than this kimono will not overlap enough in the front and will not fit you correctly. Of course, you can still wear it as an open robe or use it for decoration!

I believe that the pictures show a good representation of the fabric colors however, please remember that colors may look different on your monitor. This is a vintage item so there may be small blemishes or marks others than those noted in the description. This item has been stored for many years so there may be a slight storage smell although I do not notice one. Items can be hung in the shade to remove odor. Dry cleaning is recommended.
