Vintage, Japanese kasuri ikat cotton fabric section - 56 inches (142 cm)

Sorry, this item has sold.

This listing is for one piece of kasuri (Ikat) fabric. The photos show the actual section of fabric available for purchase. This is a vintage item and there are a few flaws. Please read the description carefully to learn about these flaws

This cloth is about 56 inches x 13.25 inches ( 142 cm x 33.7 cm) in size.

This gorgeous section of kasuri fabric was once part of a yukata. This fabric has some small holes so it would be good for smaller projects such as a boro project. It can also be used for smaller items such as doll clothing, small accent pillow, hair accessories or coin purses.

Kasuri, also called Ikat, is created by weaving together threads that have been pre-dyed with a pattern. The threads are then woven together and the pattern will be shown in the fabric. This fabric is "tateyokogasuri" kasuri as it uses both warp and weft threads that have been dyed to create the pattern.

The cotton fabric has a deep indigo blue (just about black) background with a white, red and pale blue woven design. There are also vertical stripes running down the fabric. These stripes are a deep blue-black and black color. Please see the last photo for the best representation of the colors. Crayola brand crayons are shown in the photo for a color comparison.

**There are small holes on either side of the fabric. These holes were probably created when the stitches were removed from the fabric. Photos of a few of these holes can be seen in the 8th photo. The holes are about 1.25 inches (3.1 cm) to about 2 inches (5.08 cm) from the selvage edges. There are no holes in the center of the fabric. **

There is also a flaw in the weaving. This can be seen in the 9th photo. This flaw is not a hole.

This fabric has a crisp drape and slightly open weave. The white of my photographing surface can be seen through some of the weave. The fabric is not sheer but light can be seen through it when held up.

Item specifics:

- Medium weight fabric

-slightly coarse texture due to weave

-primarily cotton. This fabric could also contain other natural fibers such as hemp or flax.

-slightly stiff drape

-matte finish

I believe that the pictures show a good representation of the fabric colors however, please remember that colors may look different on your monitor. This is a vintage item so there may be small blemishes or marks in addition to those noted in the description. This item has been stored for many years so there may be a slight storage smell although I do not notice any.
