Creme furisode kimono sleeve fabric panel - floral and peacock design

Sorry, this item has sold.

This beautiful silk fabric was part of an unfinished furisode kimono. The furisode kimono is traditionally worn by young, unmarried women and is one of the most beautiful and decorated kimono. This silk was basted together into the kimono form but was not finished. Because of this the fabric has tiny pinholes and creases. There are also pencil marks on the selvages. These marks were made by the seamstress to mark how the kimono was to be sewn together.

** There are some flaws on this panel. Please read the description carefully to learn about these flaws **

This silk would make an amazing scarf, wrap, hair accessory, pillow case or skirt. It can be used for apparel but please remember that kimono fabric is not as wide as other fabrics.

This panel was the sleeve of the kimono. The entire panel is about 95 inches ( 241 cm) long x 14.5 inches (36.8 cm) wide. This panel has no cuts in it (as many panels from finished kimono often do). Please note that the designs do not face all the same direction. All designs are printed so that they are facing the correct direction when the silk is held by the center of the panel.

This beautiful silk panel has printed and dyed floral patterns featuring plum blossoms (ume), hydrangea, chrysanthemum, camellia, iris, branches and peony over a creme colored background. The panel also features blue and white hued, printed peacocks. The flowers are in colors of pink, fuchsia, lavender, white, blue, and green. The peacocks and some of the flowers have metallic gold colored accents.

The entire panel is seen in photos 2 through 4. The panel was too long to fit into one photo.

Photo 2 shows the first end of the panel. This end of the panel features mums, camellias and and other flowers. The tail of one peacock is also see on this portion of the panel. 9 of the flowers in this section have metallic gold colored accents. There is one small soil spot at the end of this panel. It can be seen in the top picture of photo 5. This spot is about 5.25 inches (13 cm) from selvage and about 3.25 inches (8.3 cm) from the end of the panel.

Photo 3 shows the second portion of the panel. The body of a peacock, mums, peony and plum blossoms can be seen on this portion of the panel. The peacock and 8 of the flowers have metallic gold accents. There are a number of flaws on this portion of the panel. The blue dye bled a little outside the lines of the peacock's head and a few spots of the blue dye can be seen on the white portion of the wings. These flaws are not too noticeable and should not affect how the fabric can be used. They are natural variations that were created when the silk was printed. Photo 7 shows a number of flaws that are seen on the portion of the silk where a peacock's tail was printed. There is a soiled line that runs horizontally across the panel, at a fold line, and numerous pale, yellow spots. These can be seen in the top photo in photo 7. The arrows point to some of the yellow spots that are along this soil line. This area is about 48 inches (122 cm) from the first end of the panel. There are also a number of these yellow spots near the selvage line (also near the peacock's tail). This can be seen in the bottom left photo of picture 7. Lastly there is a small mark on one of the flowers near the end of the peacock's tail feathers. This can be seen in the bottom right photo of picture 7.

Photo 4 shows the third end of the panel. The body of a second peacock, tail feathers, hydrangea, peony and mums can be seen on this portion of the panel. The peacock and 10 of the flowers have metallic gold accents. I only saw one flaw in this section where there is a tiny pink, dye spot near the wing of the peacock. This can be seen in photo 8.

Photo 5 shows the last end of the panel. Flowers and branches are seen on this portion of the panel. 6 of the flowers have gold, metallic colored accents. There is some pale, yellow spotting at the end of this panel, under the branches. A closeup of these spots can be seen in the bottom picture of the 6th photo.

The silk is a medium weight, kinsha silk. This silk is considered a "crepe type" silk but it is much smoother and more fluid than chirimen silk. It has a smooth, slightly slippery, texture and wonderful sheen. It has a slightly stiff drape due to the printed design. Please enlarge the photos to see the beautiful color and texture. The last photo shows the colors most accurately. Crayola brand crayons were place in the photos for color comparison. The background color of this silk is a pale creme color. It is not white.

I believe that the pictures show a good representation of the fabric colors however, please remember that colors may look different on your monitor. This is a vintage item so there may be small blemishes or marks in addition to those noted in the description. This item has been stored for many years so there may be a slight storage smell although I do not notice any.
