Maroon Silk Furisode kimono fabric panel - Printed peony with gold accents and couching

*measurement increments on rulers in the pictures are in INCHES*

This beautiful silk fabric was part of an unfinished furisode kimono. The furisode kimono is traditionally worn by young, unmarried women and is one of the most beautiful and decorated kimono. This silk was basted together into the kimono form but was not finished. Because of this the fabric is pristine EXCEPT for tiny pinholes, creases and fading that is described in the following description. There are also marks on the selvages. These marks were made by the seamstress and are only on the selvage and should not affect how the silk can be used. These marks do not extend more than .5 inches (1.3cm) from the selvage.

The entire panel is about 99 inches (251.5cm) long x 15.5 inches (39.4cm) wide. This panel has no cuts in it (as many panels from finished kimono often do). This panel was the sleeve of the kimono.

The panel is a maroon color. One end of the panel has a dyed pattern of peony in colors of purple, green and gold. The peonies have metallic, gold colored, printed accents and faux shibori designs. One peony has a center created from embroidered, gold-metallic thread couching.  This printed portion of the panel is seen in the second photo. This printed portion of the panel is about 29 inches long (74cm).

The remainder of this panel is the solid maroon color. The end of the panel has about 12 inches (30.5cm) of solid maroon colored silk followed by the 29 inch printed portion. There is then a 57 inch (144.8cm) section of solid maroon color.

***Please note that the panel has two spots. One spot is a lighter area that can be seen in the last photo. It is near the end of the red colored crayon. There is also one black spot on the panel. This small spot can be seen in the fourth photo. Please note that there are specks of the gold, metallic colored paint near the areas where this paint was applied. There is also one section of a peony where the gold, metallic paint has worn off a little bit. This photo can be seen in the "shop updates" section of my ETSY shop  ***

The silk is a chirimen type silk and has a wonderful texture and a slight sheen. It is a light to medium weight and has a nice drape. Please enlarge the photos to see this texture. The last photo shows the color of the silk most accurately. Crayola brand crayons were placed in the photo for color comparison.

More photos of this silk can be seen in the "shop updates" section of my ETSY shop:

The silk would make an amazing scarf, wrap or pillow case. This fabric has not been laundered so it could have a slight storage smell, although I do not note any. Silk can be ironed on a low heat, steam setting.

*Shipping cost overages greater than $1.00 will be refunded*

I believe that the pictures show a good representation of the fabric colors however, please remember that colors may look different on your monitor. This is a vintage fabric so there may be small blemishes or marks in addition to those seen and described in the description.
